American Craft

Ok Ok its been awhile since I have been here.
But I have been working on a project that I really liked.

American Craft Magazine asked artist if they would like to take some of their Vintage Photo's and use them however they wished.

After receiving my photo's and looking at all the wonderful work that had been done, my thought was how to preserve the art, and how to inspire more creativity.

So I bought a young girls sun dress and distressed it by taking out the color.

Then I transfered the photo's onto the dress, added crochet and buttons. Stitched by hand and then after much delay,( because I hated the thought of cutting up these photo's) I cut and folded some of the photo's into butterflies and attached them to the dress.

It came out very whimsical and fun. I can almost see her dancing in a field of wild flowers in the summer.

Thanks for looking...

Had a great workshop with Dagmar Binder at Jennifer Hoag's. It was full of new and some old friends.
We started out with making cuffs,( sounds easy right) well 11 hours later we drug ourselves out of there in time for dinner(drinks) and bed.

Next day we started our tops, did I mention math was involved at hour 9 of last night so we could make our pattern. 11 1/2 hours later still working.

Friday, fulling and sewing and ta da I will load the images tomorrow. To exhausted to do it now.

But I had a lovely time with everyone who attended, which is really rare lets face it.

The best hostess in the world Jennifer Hoag, and lets not talk about the store from heaven.
Northeastfiberarts.com

Dagmar was a great teacher who had patience sometimes with us and other times just looked at us like we had two heads. But we all got a beautiful piece of art work from her instructions.

So that's it for now and tomorrow or the day after will post the pics.

P.S. One of Kind bed and breakfast is a beautiful place to stay if you are in Burlington Vermont.

For Brother's Garden

For my Brother Dwayne, hope you like and send me pictures of the bird that decides to live in it...

This was created with merino batt and wool. Then embroidered.

Birdhouse in summer

I am going to try and take pictures throughout the seasons of my birdhouse. I like that the morning glories have now taken roost.

This is my felted bag.

The back with the crazy pink pocket, and embroidery.

The front.
It almost gets lost in the foliage.
My Label.
Here you see my first vest. I used a batt and some locks, which started off a cream color.

Then I decided to dye the piece dark brown.

Well the day before I dyed a skirt dark green and when I was reading the directions it said you should use two dark colors to enrich the color you want.

So I put the vest into the dark green dye bath overnight.

The next day I pulled out the vest and fell in love with this color.

So this is where we are for right now.

What do you think?

Birdhouse Condo for rent or sale

This is my first attempt at making a felted vessel. I had alot of fun and didn't realize how strong felt can really become.

The embroidery was nice to do as I watched TV at night, I just don't know how long it will last in the elements.

The fun part will be taking pictures through the seasons and seeing just how it will hold up.

I wonder if a bird will actually nest in it. How exciting that would be!

I think I will have to make another one to keep this one company.

My brother said he could see alot of these hanging at my grandparents house with a for sale sign on them. He probably knew that I would catch the bug and make a few more.

A closer look and you can see the foot prints on the deck.

So I was on the computor and  saw that the Northeast Fiber Arts was having a challenge.
They (Jennifer) would send out a bag of different fibers and you could make whatever you
wanted with it.
When finished take a photo and everyone gets to vote on who they like best.
This was alot of fun.
This is how it started. There is batt underneath that you can"t see.
Then I deconstructed the batt.
Added the camel and down I think that is what it said.
Silk hankies are added.
Prefelt circles...
Wool fringe
and bits of cotton and silk fibers
Bits of blue silk fiber
Add soap and water

A wee jumper!
All I need now is another baby grandaugter.

Prayer for Water

So one morning I was on FB and I see an invitation to the Indigenous Peoples Task Force.
To offer a piece of Fiber art to be pieced into a quilt. The theme is the mighty Mississippi.
More precisely the "Sister Mississippi".
The women are walking from the mouth of the Mississippi in Minnesota to the end in the Gulf Coast. Praying all along the way.

By the way, Felt United theme this year is Water.

So here is my piece.

I have asked that the people who receive my piece will send me a photo of the completed quilt.
Will post if I get it.

Finally finish the pillow. This one I felted and then used machine embroidary and then did some hand embroidary. It was fun rembering the stitches. It is off to a new home soon to be enjoyed some more.

Inspired by lil fish studios. She creates beautiful stitches on egg shaped stones.
Mine is a dandelion that has gone to seed, with the center being some of the seeds.
Had a great time with the stitches.

As you can see I have been busy. Just didn't post.
The bags have been fun and a learning process. You can't be doing anything but thinking how to construct a bag when making one. Or else you will have to redo it many times over. Lesson learned.

The gloves are alot of fun, they are lined in cashmere.

The hat was inspired by a woman from Norway her name escapes me right now. She does beautiful embroidery. I haven't  done embroidery for years and it was fun to try to remember the stitches.

I am going to try to keep more in touch.

So until next time, keep on creating....

Bags, gloves , hats and more

I like how this came out, looks like a Roman warriors helmet.
so here is my latest hat, laid out
I am liking the contrast.

So here I am, back from the abyss. I have been working on some more hats and now have added bags.

I like the silk hankies in the bag and am thinking about making yardage for a childrens coat.
