How did this all start?

I am asked all the time how I ever got involved with felting. I was in the middle of New Hampshire at an Herbal Conference. I go ever year with a very good friend of mine.

We were in between classes and decided to take a needle felting class. Now you need to know that the class was being held in a large tent in the middle of a field in Sargent Camp.

The technique was very intriging. You take roving, which is wool that has been carded and usually dyed and with a needle that has a barb on it. You used a piece of dense foam on our laps and lay the wool on top of this and made a design. We then used the needle and poked it through the wool into the foam.

This would make a piece of felt material as it was finished you pulled it apart from the foam.

Now back to the weather in New Hampshire in August. It started to rain, then pour, then the heavens opened up. Instead of an hour class, we were there for two hours. Just long enough to get hooked.

From there it has been a lovely path to wander along.

I have been to Bath Maine at a spectacular store called Halcyon where I took a class with Marianne Dubois
on nuno felting.

Joined the Northeast Feltmakers Guild, and have met some of the most talented ladies. If I can figure out how to provide links on this blog I will.

So today I just want to share how the journey began and be able to show you the work I am doing and what others are doing .

To be continued.....
